Hello everyone!

Recently, while assisting a friend, he needed to retrieve some files directly from Mega on his FreeBSD server. I happened to know a method that I frequently use whenever I need to upload large files to the server, such as backups in tar.gz format. The significant advantage of this approach is the fast transfer speed, which often outpaces traditional FTP methods from your personal computer.

I believe this guide will be beneficial for many users, so I’m sharing my findings since I couldn’t find any resources in our community on how to achieve this.

The Solution: Installing the MEGA TOOLS Package

The process involves installing a package known as MEGA TOOLS. Below, I've outlined a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Install the Megatools Package

You can install the Megatools package using the following command:

Step 2: Obtain the Direct Download Link

Next, navigate to the Mega file you wish to download and make sure to copy the direct link to that file. Please note that it must link directly to the file itself; links to folders won’t work—no files will be downloaded from inside folders.

Step 3: Execute the Download Command

Once you have the correct link, execute the following command to start the download:

This is the hidden content, please

The file will be downloaded directly to your current working directory. If you prefer to download the file to a specific directory, you can change to that directory first. For instance:

This is the hidden content, please

Then use the download command:

Conclusion

I hope this guide is clear and that it proves useful to some of you. Happy downloading!
