San Andreas Unity is a Unity-based open-source game engine that is created as a remake of GTA San Andreas. However, it is not a complete remake, but rather emphasizes on gameplay features, multiplayer, and creating a system that would allow for easy game expansion and extensive modding. When playing for the first time, the game will prompt you to specify the path to your GTA installation. Please note that you must have an existing GTA installation in order to play. San Andreas Unity has been successfully tested on various platforms, including Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android. Furthermore, it supports both Mono and IL2CPP scripting backends, which allows it to be built for any platform that Unity can support. The game is also fully functional in multiplayer, allowing you to choose to start as a dedicated server, a host (which serves as both the server and client at the same time), or connect to an existing server. This works well on all supported platforms, so you can even start a host on your Android device. The game's features include in-game controls, various game modes, full multiplayer compatibility, and tested compatibility with Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android. Additionally, it supports both Mono and IL2CPP scripting backends.

San Andreas Unity has undergone rigorous testing on various platforms, including Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android. It also supports both Mono and IL2CPP scripting backends, which means it can be developed for any platform that Unity can handle, provided that you are able to copy the PC version of GTASA onto the target device.

Multiplayer mode is fully operational in the game. Players can choose to initiate the game as a dedicated server, a host (both server and client at the same time), or they can simply connect to an existing server. The multiplayer function is supported on all platforms, which even includes Android devices. Users who wish to host a server are encouraged to refer to the command line instructions and server administration guides.

To set up the development environment, start by cloning the project, including the submodules, using the following command: git clone --depth 1 --recurse-submodules

. Next, open the project in Unity 2020.3.26 or later, then launch the startup scene located at Assets/Scenes/Startup.unity and click the Play button.

To access in-game controls, press the Escape key to display the pause menu. From there, players can access various utilities and a window that displays all of the game's controls.

Gameplay features can be expanded through plugins and game modes in the form of C# DLLs. More information on these can be found on the game's wiki.

Interested parties are welcome to join the San Andreas Unity Discord community to discuss development. Issues for newcomers, those related to importing assets from the original game, and a complete list of issues can be found on the project's Github page. Currently, priority is given to issues with high priority labels and those found in the milestones.
